Antoon van Wijk (1952) is a Dutch sculptor and painter. Together with Richard Price, he is the founder of glass casting technology. He makes very idiosyncratic, imaginative sculptures. They are playful and exuberant and often provoke a mild smile from the viewer. Antoon is known as a specific glass artist, but in his works he shows that he knows how to combine different materials and techniques. His images are widely collected throughout Europe.
Mat Cahill is both British and Irish, and has close ties to the sea, coming from a family of migrants and having a migrant partner himself. Although water often marks borders and separates countries, Cahill also sees it as a connecting road. It connects communities through trade routes and provides a way out for those who want to return home. Cahill uses drawings to show the interconnectedness between people. In this way he tries to break through the limitations of that thinking.
The work of Antoon van Wijk and Mat Cahill can be admired in WTC Amsterdam from April 26 to June 28.
